Progenex….or Joining the Reebok Following?

I have set a few PR’s over the past two weeks which is great, I just don’t know why I set them. Sounds odd, right? I haven’t changed much with the exception of two things. I started taking Progenex Recovery and More Muscle. The other thing I changed was giving into the Dark Side…Reebok.

Progenex is great, just really expensive. I know, I know…”you’ll blow $100 on booze but not $60 on a good protein.” Heard it, got it. Progenex has done a great job building both a brand image and a rabid following. The composition is relatively easy to duplicate through True Nutrition and I am patiently awaiting my order. I am interested to see if the results are similar.

Reebok: I was against the whole Reebok CrossFit push because what I liked about CrossFIt was that is was not mainstream. Reebok took over and now ads are all over the place and you do not see CrossFit without Reebok. I am sure box owners are happy because it is great for advertising which is good for them because it helps business. Will CrossFit be able to maintain it’s identity or will it end up becoming Reebok? Is this a merger or an acquisition. Big difference when it comes to company culture. Is it possible this little sticker helped me get stronger? If so, that would be awesome because they are a hell of a lot cheaper!

Stop Thinking

I saw myself going backwards in terms of getting good form with cleans and snatches. I felt myself bending forward and muscling up the weight with my lower back and arms through a reverse curl. I was not jumping or getting under the bar. Basically everything you should not be doing.

I scheduled a session with Aaron, the strength Yoda, Saturday morning. He asked me to warm up with the bar, doing dead lifts, cleans, overhead presses, etc. I got done and he asked if I even felt a single thing because it looked like I didn’t. I was not paying attention to where the weight felt on my feet, or where my shoulders were, or the position of my legs. I was spending the whole time in my head instead of where I should have been focusing.

Sometimes you just have to get out of your head and remember the basics.

  • Back stays flat
  • Shoulders are back and tight
  • Build tension in your hamstrings
  • Knees bent to the outside
  • Feel like you are about to fall backwards
  • Jump from your heels
  • Get under the bar

It was a great session and I scheduled another one for next week. Thanks Aaron!

Burpees…the fastest way to ruin a day.

Friday was a great day. We got to lift heavy stuff and minimal “I’m going to pass out” syndrome. Saturday was all cardio with burpees thrown in to piss everyone off. Of course, the extra curricular activities on Friday night didn’t help either! Need to stop that stuff the night before a WOD.

I got my King Kong Bag Friday. Same prices as the Reebok bag however it feels a lot sturdier and is a little bigger. Worth the money if you tend to go through gym bags pretty quickly.

I need to get a new pair of shoes and I think I am done with Innov8s. My ankles roll to the outside in those and that’s not good.

Reebok may have pushed me to the dark side with Nano 2.0. Everyone else is buying them, I might as well too. Reebok is the cult within a cult!

Ok, off to take the dog for a long walk and contemplate what I want to be when I grow up.
